A Journey into Natural Living

A Journey into Natural Living

At MoonFarma, we consider the social and environmental impact of every business decision we make. We value people, plants and our planet over profit. We also believe that there are daily habits and more natural ways of living that can make a positive impact in our world, both on a macro and micro level.

Taking small steps to make sustainable changes in your life is the best place to start.  I'll be hosting a new workshop series called "A Journey into Natural Living" focused on the choices we have that can make an impact. For now, I'll share five sustainable swap outs you can  consider today.

  1. Swap single use drinks/containers for a reusable water bottle. Single-use plastic bottles contribute significantly to plastic pollution in oceans and landfills, harming marine life and ecosystems. By switching to a reusable water bottle, you reduce plastic waste and your carbon footprint. Reusable bottles are typically made of safer materials like stainless steel or BPA-free plastics, reducing exposure to harmful chemicals found in disposable containers.
  2. Grow your own herb garden. Growing your own herbs ensures that you have access to fresh, flavorful ingredients for cooking and garnishing. Fresh herbs often have superior taste and aroma compared to store-bought varieties. Homegrown herbs require minimal packaging and transportation, reducing carbon emissions associated with food miles. Additionally, growing your own herbs reduces reliance on commercially produced herbs, which may involve chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Gardening provides a sense of connection to nature and can be a therapeutic hobby, promoting mental well-being and stress relief.
  3. Switch from single use bags to reusable totes. Single-use plastic bags are a major contributor to environmental pollution, clogging waterways and harming wildlife. Reusable totes help reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. Reusable totes are durable and can carry heavy loads, making them suitable for groceries, shopping trips, and various other purposes. Many totes are also foldable or collapsible for convenient storage.
  4. Make your own laundry detergent. Commercial laundry detergents often contain harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances that can be harmful to the environment and human health. Making your own detergent allows you to control the ingredients, reducing pollution and potential toxins in water systems. Homemade laundry detergent can be made from simple, inexpensive ingredients like soap, baking soda, and washing soda, saving you money compared to buying commercial products. Check out the recipe below!
  5. Make your own cleaning agents. Many commercial cleaning products contain harsh chemicals that can be irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. By making your own cleaning agents using natural ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice, you reduce exposure to harmful toxins and create a safer environment for your family. Homemade cleaning agents are typically biodegradable and have minimal impact on the environment . They also reduce the need for single-use plastic packaging and are more cost effective. You can also make them in small batches to help reduce waste.
